Dhaka, the dynamic capital of Bangladesh, is set to witness a transformative addition to its skyline with the debut of the Dhaka Tower, a project by the renowned architectural studio OMA. Once completed, this impressive office high-rise spanning 180,000 square meters will rise to a height of 150 meters (490 feet), establishing itself as one of the tallest buildings in the country. Leading the design is OMA Partner Iyad Alsaka, with the project’s development being led by Dhaka-based real estate developer Shanta Holdings. The Dhaka Tower has officially broken ground, symbolizing Bangladesh’s rapid economic growth.

Dhaka Tower Breaks Ground to Become OMA's First Project in Bangladesh

OMA Partner Iyad Alsaka comments: “Our design for Dhaka Tower is inspired by the spirit of Bangladesh’s thriving economy. Its shape expresses the aspirations of a dynamic nation, making a bold statement on the city’s skyline.”

A Beacon in Bangladesh’s Economic Surge

OMA introduces Dhaka Tower at a pivotal moment when Bangladesh has recently become the second-largest economy in South Asia, just five decades after gaining independence. This economic surge has led to significant transformation within the heart of Bangladesh, particularly in its capital, Dhaka. The Dhaka Tower will emerge as a symbol of this urban evolution, reshaping the city’s skyline. Located within a burgeoning commercial district on the outskirts of Tejgaon, this tower will be the tallest of its kind in the neighborhood. Tejgaon, once an industrial hub, is now the headquarters for numerous local and multinational corporations, further highlighting the significance of Dhaka Tower in this evolving landscape.

Designed with Abstracted Geometries

The OMA-designed Dhaka Tower is situated along the shores of Hatirjheel Lake in Bangladesh. It features a design characterized by simple, extruded, and abstracted shapes. The tower consists of two triangular floor plates interconnected by a rectangular core housing panoramic elevators that provide breathtaking views of the picturesque lake. This layout maximizes natural daylight and unobstructed vistas. Through strategic use of fritted glass and careful orientation, the play of light within the building is harmoniously balanced.

Dhaka Tower breaks away from conventional tower design by incorporating a pyramidal base, creating expansive atriums that seamlessly merge with beautifully landscaped outdoor spaces. Visitors entering these triple-height lobbies will encounter versatile spaces suitable for various events and presentations. The aesthetics of Dhaka’s waterscape influence the distinctive pattern adorning both atriums. Additionally, the base includes a generous exhibition space, soaring to a height of 40 meters (130 feet). At the pinnacle of the tower, a restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating will offer visitors a unique dining experience, while a publicly accessible two-tier observation deck will provide panoramic views of the city below.
