Elon Musk’s Starlink to Launch Satellite Internet Service in Bangladesh. Starlink, a revolutionary satellite internet service founded by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, is set to introduce its cutting-edge technology in Bangladesh. The primary objective of this initiative is to provide high-speed and uninterrupted internet connectivity to geographically isolated and disaster-affected populations in the country.
During a recent meeting, State Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, disclosed that Starlink has generously provided two devices for a three-month test run in Bangladesh. This trial will involve installing one of the devices on a mobile bus, and the other will be set up on a remote island. The aim is to thoroughly evaluate the internet service’s compatibility and performance in diverse and challenging environments.
The meeting between Starlink representatives and top officials from the ICT Division took place at the ICT Tower. In attendance were Joel Meredith, manager for global government affairs at SpaceX, and Parnil Urdhwareshe, manager for global licensing and activation. This indicates the high level of commitment and interest from both sides in making this venture successful.
Starlink has garnered worldwide acclaim for its innovative approach to providing satellite internet access, reaching over 60 countries already. Its state-of-the-art technology utilizes a constellation of satellites to deliver internet connectivity to areas that were previously underserved or inaccessible. By leveraging this advanced infrastructure, Starlink aims to bridge the digital divide in Bangladesh and empower communities with reliable internet access.
Upon the completion of the three-month trial run, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) will collaborate with Starlink to determine the most suitable pricing for the internet service. This collaboration reflects a mutual effort to ensure the service is not only effective but also financially accessible to the target populations.
The anticipation surrounding Starlink’s entry into the Bangladeshi market is palpable, and it is expected to have a transformative impact on internet accessibility in the country. The potential benefits include improved education, healthcare, business opportunities, and overall socio-economic development, especially in remote and disaster-prone areas.
As the Starlink team eagerly participates in the startup function in Dhaka on Saturday, all eyes are on this ground-breaking venture, eagerly waiting to witness its positive impact on connectivity, innovation, and progress in Bangladesh.
